The New Computer

Okay, it’s been too long since I’ve written any posts…now the ideas (let’s call them ‘musings’ – it’s more pretentious) I’ve wanted to disseminate have backed up like a toilet with three rolls of paper towels in it (thought I was going to go gross there, didn’t you? Actually, I did too…ah, the organic nature of writing…).
Anyway, I got a new computer recently, and for a digital artist, that’s a pretty big deal. The prospect of reinstalling the art programs, reconfiguring your hotkeys and preferences, moving all your artwork over, and so on, is pretty daunting. That is to say, it makes for a good excuse for not blogging more. But an excuse it is, and I will force myself to commit my thoughts to text more regularly in the future. Already I’ve got some posts percolating on topics such as a Halo/Halo 2 comparison (not what you think), another post on Psychonauts now that I’ve finished it, a response to Ernest Adams’ recent plea for a “Merchant Ivory” sector of the game industry, and something/anything/everything I can think of about Shadow of the Colossus, one of my favorite games of recent years.
Btw, I had a custom PC built by a company in California called Cyber Power. They were the only place that let me put together exactly the machine I wanted. They bill themselves as building gameing computers, and their case selections reflect this, but what they offered was easily cheaper than “gamer systems” that other companies produced (I have found that the moniker “gamer system” usually means you will pay more for the same hardware, except your stuff will be, you know, leet). Add the reasonable pricing to the flexibility of component choices and to me that means it’s a good place to go for people who know what they want, but don’t feel like putting it together themselves.
I was going to sprinkle a little game design analysis into this post since it was so dry, but ended up writing so much it deserved its own post. So next up is...Bioshock Impressions
